Tatt’s second grade side produced an upset
win over minor premiers RSL in the Narrabri District Cricket
Association second grade competition last Saturday to claim the
Barrett Cup. RSL went into the match as a dominant minor premier
however, the young Tatt’s side lifted for the occasion to
produce their best effort of the season. RSL won the toss and
batted first. The RSL top order had been their strength all
season however, on this occasion strong opening spells by Brad
Nott 2/29 and Tom Craig 4/19 proved to be a match winner as RSL
sunk to be 4/20 after nine overs. Chris Higgins 2/15 continued
the destruction of the RSL order to have the minor premiers
reeling at 7/67. Late runs to Dwayne Shawcross (18) and Shane
Andrews (17*) gave their side hope of a defendable total with
the side bowled out for 111.
Tatt’s run chase began in solid fashion with
Brad Graham (33) and Nathan Collis (15) putting on 38 before
Collis was bowled by Shawcross. Tom Craig was next to go without
scoring with the score on 42 and Graham followed 20 runs later
to give RSL a hint of victory. Wayne Knight (16) and Troy Nott
(16) progressed the total enough to give Brad Nott the last dash
for the premiership, which he took with plenty of style smashing
a six in the 37th over to ensure victory with six
wickets down. Dwayne Shawcross 4/27 was the standout RSL bowler
while Brad Nott’s innings capped off a fine allround game to win
Man of the Match honours.
