The first round of the Narrabri District
cricket competitions started last Saturday with some teams
changing sponsors and names. Last years Tourist Hotel side is
now the Bowlo while the famous Commercial’s name is no more with
that club taking up sponsorship and the name from the Commercial
Hotel.
RSL and Bowlo were successful in both grades
against Tatt’s and Commercial Hotel respectively. In firsts RSL
showed the benefits of their pre-season training by scoring 222
against Tatt’s at No 3 oval. Veteran Jim Pitman was the top
scorer for RSL with 41 after Andrew Irvine had earlier posted
36. Jason Trindall also got into the action blasting 37 late in
the innings. Tatt’s best with the ball was Michael Cain who
bowled seven overs for 2/15 while Matt Turner did the hard work
into the wind to claim 3/47. Tatt’s tried hard with the bat
scoring 8/155 with Luke Meppem 40 not out and Paul Hulbert 33
providing determined resistance. Best for RSL with the ball was
Jason Trindall with 2/7.
In second grade RSL defeated an
under-strength Tatt’s side in convincing fashion by bowling out
Tatt’s for 100 and passing the total without the loss of a
wicket. Tatt’s best with bat was Thomas Craig with 31 while J
Knight was the destroyer with 3/13 for RSL. Billy Knight 61 and
Daniel Cope 36 polished off the target in emphatic fashion to
ensure a ten wicket victory. |
