FLASH: Has
the
next Victor Trumper been discovered playing
cricket in Narrabri for Tatts? |
 |
 |
| Tatts
2nd Grade batting star Nathan McGinnity, pictured here playing
Junior Cricket on Saturday 24th February, shows his front foot
driving stance. Check out the similarities between the photo of
this young player and that of the legendary Australian batsman
Victor Trumper. Old Tatts players are scratching their heads
attempting to remember if Nathan's dad Bazza, ever displayed
such great technique in his playing days for Tatts! |
|
| Former
Tatts legend Paul Graham, hangs his head in shame as
he watches his son Brad (current Tatts 2nd Grade
captain), bat with his future son-in-law Ashley Watt for a
partnership of 25 runs off 15 (yes...15!) overs in the
chase for RSL's total of 190 in the 2nd Grade clash on
17th February 2001. Tatts subsequently lost the match, and
the "Pitt Cup". 'Butch' himself could never
have been accused of batting this slowly in his heyday
for Commercials and later for Tatts! Even when he
snapped his Achilles tendon whilst batting ,
and then subsequently fielded for 40 overs,
Butch never could be accused of batting this
slowly! |

played at Collins Park Narrabri on 7th February.
Russell was kept busy fielding and signing autographs
for dozens of schoolchildren who mistakenly believed
that he was one of the visiting New South Wales
players! Maybe they were also impressed by his
famous "Merv Hughes Cricket bat". |

King' Rooney: pictured (left) with the Premiership Shield won by
Tatts in the Sunday Competition in 1993 / 94. Greg took the
'Man of the Match' figures of 5-24 (say no more) in the Grand Final!

'Grub' Shiels: The 1999 Tatts AGM saw the retirement of a
living legend of the sport of cricket in Narrabri - ‘Grub’
Shiels. Grub was President of the Tatts for longer than anyone
can remember, including himself. Rumour has it however that it
was in excess of 30 years. Grubs
legendary status results from his long years of service to the
club, but is mainly due to his many reminisces and
‘stories’ about the past. These include such gems as the
day he caught the greatest catch he’s ever seen and the day
he hit a ball all the way to Melbourne, his refusal to ever
give a Tatts batsman out LBW, his calls of 'no way' from the
square leg fence in response to all LBW appeals against Tatts,
and his never to be forgotten renditions of 'Cry'
at club
BBQ's and Presentation Nights. What a legend!
